Training Officer's Update

Club Diver course news:

The first of the July intake C.D. students has hit open water and is loving it! The rest are working their way through the pool sessions and will soon be ready for open water.

We are going to need some offers of help from some of the 24 (!) instructors in the club to supplement the sterling open water efforts of Barry and Vic over the winter - even if you train only once or twice it will be a help. Please remember how you relied on the goodwill of your instructors when you were being trained.

The repeated Club Diver lectures are due to end in early December, and the DIVE LEADER THEORY course will begin on the 14th December.

January to March should see a lull in C.D. pool training, so I am planning the Lifesaver course for then. January 6th is the proposed date of the Oxygen Administration course. I am going to have to insist on full payment in advance to secure a place, as we are running SDCs at cost and can't afford to have people changing their minds. Let me know if you would be interested in doing a refresher to practice your O2 Admin. skills.

We have recently run successful Boat Handling and Practical Rescue Management courses; thanks to Mark Murphy, Richard Carter-Savigear, Barry Perton and Vic McDonald for their instruction.

Due to Mark going travelling in the spring, there now won't be Chartwork or Dive Planning and Marshalling courses early in 2001 unless there is a real demand. Let me know if you're keen!

The Search and Recovery course is still planned for April. I am also waiting for Dave Lock (Regional Coach) to advise me on running the new-style Radio Operator's course so watch this space!

Lifeboat Collection.

I would like to thank everyone at the club for their contributions towards the lifeboat appeal. The amount we collected was £39.57. The total amount raised from our area of collectors was £ 1102.67. Both figures were up on last year. I have placed the thank you card from the RNLI on the notice board at the club. Once again
Many thanks,

Vic

P.S. I will be arranging a night dive on Wednesday 20th Dec, meeting at Stoney at 7pm. Let me know if you are interested.
