Useful Numbers

In case anyone didn't receive the handout with the new numbers for the British Hyperbaric Association/ Royal Navy Diver Helpline (24hr advice), they are as follows:

  • At Sea: Call the Coastguard on Channel 16
  • On land : England, N.Ireland and Wales: 07831 151523
  • On land : Scotland (Aberdeen Royal Infirmary): 01224 681818

Instructors - What they really think of you.….

BSAC recommend that instructors offer their trainees positive feedback to encourage them to persevere with their training. I'm sure, however, that there are some trainees and qualified divers alike (not in this club I'm sure!) who probably deserve to receive reports like these:

  • I would not allow this diver to breed.
  • This diver is depriving a village somewhere of an idiot.
  • If he were any more stupid, he'd have to be watered twice a week.

(Readers are advised to read the following item and then re-apply the previous instructors' comments to the hapless instructor(s) below - Ed)

Quiz Time

The newest recruits would like to thank their instructors and offer all members the chance to participate in a little quiz:

  1. Which instructor forgot to put in their demand valve whilst descending and had to return to the surface to put it in? Clue: The same instructor can very nearly do a full roll underwater
  2. Which instructor entered the water only to realise their bottle was not turned on? Great buddy check there!
  3. Which instructor forgot to put their demand valve in before entering the water?
  4. Which instructor gave the OK signal to descend when the pupil asked "before we go down could we go over to the side and put our masks on?"
  5. Which instructor forgot that they had put extra weight into a pupil's right hand pocket before a try dive, and then wondered why that pupil kept rolling onto their right side during the dive?

On a more serious note - a big thank you to all those who take the time to instruct us. It's really appreciated and it's great fun.

DS-AC Website

Some of you may have noticed that our website address now appears in the newsletter's heading. You really should log on and check it out - it's an excellent site. The photo in the June 2000 newsletter alone is worthy of a visit!
