Training Officer’s Update
The
Club Diver course is progressing well with one lecture remaining at the time
of writing. Due to some people joining the course part-way through, plus the
usual holiday absences, every single lecture will need to be given again, so
I’m hoping each lecturer won’t mind re-doing their one!
We
now have 10 students who are all doing brilliantly in their pool lessons.
Welcome to newcomers Barry Reavill, Susan Dawes and David Bailey.
Meanwhile
there are plenty of open-water lessons / assessments taking place.
As the diving season draws to a close, I am hoping more instructors
will be available for training dives, if only to relieve pressure on the usual
suspects!
From
now on, Barry Perton will be assisting me by organising all open-water
training. This is to relieve me of part of the TO’s workload as I have a new
demanding job (teaching) which will take lots of my time. I will still be
responsible for theory and pool lessons, but please deal with Barry for any
open-water training requirements for the time being.
Some
brilliant news is that 8 people are booked onto Instructor Training Courses
this autumn. I’m glad my nagging, whoops I mean encouragement, has paid off!
Thanks
go to Steve Lee and John Ramsay for running the very popular photographic
course. It’s good to have the more established members using the pool and
the photographic competition should be busier next time!
Very
shortly the Boat-Handling and Practical Rescue Management SDCs will begin.
Places may be available so contact me ASAP if interested. Lifesaving will be
after the Dive Leader theory course (late Oct or Nov). Incidentally
you should do the PRM SDC if you hope to become a DL, and also need to buy
copies of the BSAC manuals Seamanship, Safety and Rescue for Divers and
Advanced Sport Diving plus the DL workbook (I have a few copies of the latter
for sale).
