The Photographic Competition
The format
Each year, in February or March, the club holds an underwater Photographic Competition of the pictures taken by members in the previous year. One Thursday evening is spent showing the entries and voting for the best in each category.
Due to popular demand each year the catagories have slightly changed:
- Reefs - Best of the Best (Warm water)
- Reefs Newcomer
- UK - Best of the Best (Cold water)
- UK Newcomer
- Wrecks - Best of the Best
- Wrecks Newcomer
- Humorous
- Diving related
In recent years, the high quality of the winning pictures has raised a lot of interest in underwater photography within the club.

Scandal
In 1992 the competition was rocked by scandal when one John Bonner won the Best Underwater photo prize with a picture of a plastic fish shot in his aquarium. Needless to say, he was banned for life from entering the competition,
