Dacorum Sub Aqua ClubShore diving at Weasel LockIf you have not been shore diving before, the snaps on this page will give you some idea of what it's like. Weasel Lock is a small inlet on the North Sea near St Abbs in Scotland. It's worth a visit as there is plenty to see underwater. At this part of the coast, butter fish are common (they look like 6 inch long moray eels). Also, angler fish and lobster can be found but you need to search them out. The water this far north and on the east coast is noticeably colder than the south and west coasts which are warmed by the gulf stream. This dive site could not be more different to Chesil beach, one of our other good shore diving sites. You can enlarge an image by double clicking on it. Access to the site is a bit restricted. Its a few hundred yards walk, with 80 or 90 steps and a difficult entry to the water by the rocks. The first stage is to get yourself and your equipment down the steps. Then clamber over the rocks to the water. Now gently get in the water. Wait for your buddies, then swim out on the surface. Down the inlet to the sea. Photos: Howard Sones |
