The club’s annual photo competition is back. DSAC members trawled through their galleries of photos and entered their best into the competition. 
Held after the normal Thursday meeting on the night of 28 September at the Hemel Hempstead Town Cricket Club, the event attracted a good turnout of members old and new.
There were entries in four categories:
Members voted for their favourite image per category as well as overall winner. With displays in the open area of the bar, they carefully inspected the prints, noting everything from subject and focus to composition – also notably “was I in it?” – and then made their choices.
Underwater Abroad: Brian Maleham
“Abroad Underwater” was a particularly hard-fought category, with four images tied for first place until the very last vote was cast and the winner – Rob’s clownfish – was found. Brian’s image from the Red Sea did however win everyone’s hearts in this category!
“Club” image was a less contentious category, with a majority of the members loving the group shot on the dive boat from the recent Eyemouth trip by Graham. Andy’s scene of St Abbs Head Lighthouse shrouded in mist came up behind.

“Above Water” had declared a clear winner, with Geoff’s seal photo (also from the Scotland trip) taking the podium, with another submission of his, a sunset scene over Eyemouth, coming up second.
Kristina romped home in the “UK Underwater” category with her “Mr & Mrs” picture of the Wolffish seen at Black Carrs near St. Abbs, and the same image won the most votes to become favourite image of the competition and therefore the Overall Winner of the 2023 Photo Competition.

Thanks go to our helpers on the night; with Andrew collating the many votes cast by members and Rob distributing voting slips, marshalling and guiding members from his table by the bar, in addition to all those who helped set up and clear down on the night.
It was a delight to see so many amazing images submitted by a large variety of members, and we look forward to seeing more in our 2024 Photo Competition.
