Waves Shape

This dive day out was originally intended to be a dive on the Aeolian Sky followed by a drift, but winds and weather changed rapidly overnight and the original plan was suddenly no longer workable: that’s UK diving.

A slightly smaller than planned group of four decided to brave the elements and set off from Portland, heading from the beautifully equipped Portland Marina out on Waverider.

David our skipper from Jurassic Aqua Sports had revised our first dive site to be Grove Point; a little bit further round the Isle of Portland than Balaclava Bay. A 20-minute trip had us on site; considerably quicker than the original hour and a half to the Aeolian Sky.

It was blowy and reasonably choppy topside, but everyone managed at least a 30m dive, some incurring a bit of deco time to stay down at depth. Then back on board for hot pasties; a Waverider speciality.

Then it was on to Balaclava (“Bally”) Bay to pick up some epicurean delights for later. On the way back a dolphin barrel-rolled us into the marina.

It was a rewarding trip despite the chopping and changing due to the weather, which sadly couldn’t be helped.

Many thanks to all who joined and decided to brave the day.
