Event Report: Beyond Single Cylinder Diving

Waves Shape

There was a great turnout of 23 members, more than we have seen in a long while, for our social meeting special event Beyond Single Cylinder Diving.

Andy B managed to tell the audience about lots of different aspects of progressing on from single cylinder diving. He covered requirements for deeper dives, such as more gas, and back up systems for breathing gas and gas for buoyancy. Just remember that lovely, light, easy to carry,  three-litre pony cylinder might give you just three minutes of extra breathing gas.

Really useful were the tips for heavy breathers, including kit that fits not flops.

He introduced the concepts of stage cylinders and accelerated decompression procedures, moving on to the benefits and drawbacks of twinsets. He even managed to do a bit of a pitch for converting to closed circuit kit.

The evening ended with a hands-on demo of various scuba setups that provoked a lively discussion.

At DSAC we are lucky to have many members who dive various kit configurations so a great start to any changes you are considering would be to speak up at a club meeting and get some advice from your peers.
