Usually just a short (40 min) drive from Hemel Hempstead, Wraysbury Lake near Heathrow is a close location offering diving later into the evening on some summer Tuesdays. Seven members braved the M25 on 18 August and showed up with a variety of diving plans.
Water temperature was a ridiculously balmy 23 C. This meant some divers going hoodless and gloveless and others donning wetsuits rather than the drysuits traditionally worn for colder UK diving.
Some groups practiced instruction ahead of instructor exams, others practiced with DSMBs & compasses, and some just had a nice bimble around the lake.
Sadly the viz really didn’t play along with the surface conditions, and rendered compass work particularly critical for locating your destination; surfacing and having another go once directions were reset was the order of the day for some.
For two groups the platforms near the car park got a lot of use with five members on one platform for a considerable time, all practicing various skills.
However despite the visibility it was a useful and rewarding evening and with all of us out of the water by 9pm (with the light just fading); a good time for a catchup and food before heading home.
It was a great chance to get some evening diving in and work towards skills and certifications; and a nice evening out for all.
PS: the pictures are from dive days with better water clarity.
